“.. cream of the crops (photo intensive)..”

and ohh boy .. so much cropping involved..

It’s that time of the year again.. yes.. it’s fireworks season at Marina Bay.. and for the 4th year running I was there to shoot the action..

Saturday, was a very VERY rainy day.. Met up with Syida and Yati, albeit after some confusion, at Raffles Place (UOB Building to be exact) at about 5-ish. So we walked over to One Marina Boulevard. Syida had never come on a shoot with me before and Yati was Syida’s work colleague. We took our spot at the open space across the water from the floating pontoon… Time check 1800 hrs(ish)… There were already a few tripods set up.. and the usual groups of bugs huddled under umbrellas and ponchos (yeah still raining).. We picked a spot by the waterline. and set up our tripods..

*lots of laughing and debauchery later*

Time check 2030hrs … rain has subsided.. I’m soaking wet.. time to mount Diaz and squeeze off a few (that sounds so porno)..right about now I considered using the 17-70mm kitlens to get the widest angle, but in the end I decided to stick to the 24-135mm cuz being the clutz that I am, I was afraid I somehow fumble and let water into the body(this decision will bite me in the ass later). Note that… you gotta view the full image to really see the details (if any) ..

hmm maybe i should merge these two images into one pano shot… will consider.. .. so moving on..

Time check 2115hrs… still waiting.. still wet.. starts to drizzle again.. whip out my face towel to somewhat cover Diaz… yes.. just about 3 hours waiting in the rain.

Time check 2130hrs…

I was shooting at 35mm and saw realised this is not wide enough.. so I zoomed out to 24mm ..

as you can see.. even at 24 mm i couldn’t capture the full bloom of the high level bursts..hindsight being 20-20 i should have switched to the 17-70mm.. so I made the best of what I have..

The rest of the shoot is HERE. It all did not turn out as planned but I feel there is some progress. I think last weekend was a marked improvement over Last Year’s Fireworks shoot..

Next shoot prolly the Paya Lebar Air Base open house.. next weekend… see how..

oh and yeah.. me being me.. it HAD to happen…

".. continued .."

from last Saturday ..

ok as I promised .. the pictures..

since i didn’t have a remote, most of my pictures came out a wee bit shaky.. minute but it shows..yes true hada tripod but when I pressed the shutter release it still did shake a little. That coupled with my relative inexperience in shooting fireworks in general.. ah well you be the judge.

The calm before the “firestorm”. I like this picture.. probably the best I’ve taken that night. I call it the “Esplanade Skyline”.. you.. however may call it ..NICEE!!!..(click for a bigger view)

and this is undoubtly my favourite “fire in the sky” shot for the night. It’s pretty much ordinary compare to some awesome ones others have taken. But this one’s mine. (Click for bigger view).

That’s pretty much it .. well the ones worth(almost *sic*) showing lah.. got more photos to process.. Coming up next.. Soccer shots from yesterday!
