We recce’ed a few Bridal joints on Saturday. By WE.. I mean Me , Reets and Cik Onah (Reets’ cousin).. .. First we hit JCC (Joo Chiat Complex dharrrrr).. for lunch.. I was late.. Didn’t mean to be but weather was being a bitch and I DID rush from work.

(Digress a bit).. Since I was in the area I decided to pay Uncle Moe a visit. I couldn’t make it to the opening of his shop, so yeah it’d be nice to drop by and say hi. Besides I don’t get to see him like unless it’s Hari Raya kinda thing ya know? .. So as the ladies trudged to Merpati Creations, I skipped across the road into Moephosis!. Ok Shameless plug coming..

Abs Fabs Uncle Moe!!!

Uncle Moe!!!

Moephosis!, the shop opened earlier this year, is essentially a Costume Boutique, providing costume rental and design consultancy services. Moephosis, the company has been around since 2004 (founded by my darling uncle Moe). It is now one of Singapore’s leading professional costume design & production companies with Uncle Moe being the Creative Director/Lead Designer. This man never ceases to amaze me. He is a self taught costume designer, and his credits include The NDP costumes.. Chingay.. and more recently Beauty world. He’s also earned a nomination for Best Costume Design in the 44th Golden Horse Awards (Taiwan, 2007) i think for 881.. His works will also appear in the up coming 12 Lotus.. and he’s like 38? Ok no jokes there, my Dad has a brother 4 yrs my junior.. which means yes I also have an unlce 4 years younger then me. So, anyone out there looking for really one of a kind unique costume experience.. hook up with MOEPHOSIS COSTUME BOUTIQUE 84 Joo Chiat Road, Singapore 427380 Opening hours: Mon to Sat, 10am – 6pm
.. no regrets one..

Back to the ladies.. As I stepped into Merpati Creations, Reets looks me in the eye and sez, “Turn around, walk out the door..” I’m guessing the pple there were less then helpful..We walked a little down the road to hit Zul Radi. The place was closed. After some more walkabouts.. we hit Tanjong Katong complex.. and two more places.. House of Colosse and Sultana (i think).. No feedback from H.O.C. they just took a name card but Sultana wanted 2k plus for the necessaries..AND a little extra for the plus sized bajus.. aiyoooo..

Next stop was Singapore Expo.. as we entered exhibition Hall 5, we saw the people from ZulRadi at the first booth.. ahhh no wonder shop close..We sat down had a little chit chat with them. and this brings about the WTF?!! moment of the day..

Me: I have no problems with Bajus.. I mean usually for me it’s the Pants that give me grief.. I can squeeze a litte around the waist if I have to but most of the times it’s my thighs that can’t fit into the pants..
Lady 1: how big can your thigh’s be.. aiya shouldn’t be a problem..
Reets: he does have big thigh’s..
Lady 2 hands me a tape measure.. so I take measure as a tailor would with a little play while i was sitting down..
Me : 35 inches..
Lady 2: are you sure.. measure again.. this time .. gam gam.. the exact fit..do you do weights?
(yes on the weights btw..used to do 300+kg leg press)
Me : 31 inches..
Lady 2 looks at Lady 1… *awkward silence*
Lady 2 and Lady 1 : Cann cann we should have someting for you..
Lady 1: maybe it’s best you try to lose about 6 inches by next year..

At that.. we kinda lost confidence on their sales pitch.. We finally settled on a package by Our Wedding Affairs for just over 4.5k ..This is inclusive of a studio shoot.. Event day and Nikah day mak andam. The Pelamin.. and decor.. some extras as well which we thought were quite comprehensive..I also tend to agree on with Reets why she didn’t want to go to my auntie (Salmah Manap Bridal), for a “go see”.. We just didn’t want to feel obliged to take her on in any case.

Saturday night ended with a bet being made.. witnesed by Reets cousins.. It is, of all things, a weight loss challenge.. Spurred on by the “lose 6 inches” comment by the lady at ZulRadi, I decided to get back on the same regime that saw me lose 10+ kg’s some time back.. No soda’s .. No rice .. ..

what’s at stake..? a lot..
If Reets wins.. she gets a holdiay(alone) in Egypt paid in full by me. (expenses not included of course).
If I win.. I get a new camera… an A700 or an A900(pending the release price on 30th september)…
our target date… by our anniversary next year..

Yeah i know what you’re thinking.. no rice?? .. I’ve done it before.. I can do it again.. this time round.. gotta be a little bit more motivated.. this brings about the “LoL” moment of the day..

Ehan: Dude, you’ve hit 80kg before right.. this shouldn’t be any different..
Me: yeah but .. but to lose 60 kgs is a lotta work.. beside.. when I went down to 80, it was under extreme conditions..
Ehan: Dude, you’re getting married.. it doesn’t get more extreme then that..
